Be careful: Seven directions for the technical development of hot melt adhesive in the future!

Hot melt adhesive is the use of hot melt machine through the heat of the hot melt glue melting. The glue after melting becomes a liquid and is sent to the surface of the bonded object through the throat and spray gun of the hot melt adhesive machine. After the hot melt adhesive is cooled, it completes the bonding. It can meet the requirements of carton sealing and overcome the defects of the previous carton sealing forms.


Characteristics of hot melt adhesive

Hot melt adhesive is a solvent-free, water-free, 100% solid fusible polymer product. It is a solid at room temperature. It is heated and melted to a certain extent to become a flowing and viscous liquid adhesive. After melting, it is light brown translucent or native white.

The main component of hot melt adhesive, i.e. basic resin, is copolymerized with ethylene and vinyl acetate under high pressure, and then mixed with tackifier, viscosity regulator and antioxidant to make hot melt adhesive.


Hot melt adhesive is a 100% solid, which turns into a molten state after heating. It comes into contact with air and solidifies on the cold surface, and then it takes only a few seconds to complete. Compared with solvent type and water solvent type, the main advantages are as follows:

1. Ensure high production efficiency.

2. No drying equipment is required to save space.

3. Non toxic, non flammable, no risk of pollution.

4. Long term storage, no deterioration.


Hot melt adhesive development direction

In the future, under the trend of globalization of the hot melt adhesive industry, the demand will be more diversified. 一、High strength hot melt adhesive

Bonding strength is the core performance of adhesive. If hot melt adhesive wants to be applied to some occasions with high strength requirements, especially those bearing large structural stress, it must improve the bonding strength.

Strong polarity and good wettability are often the characteristics of adhesives that can achieve high bonding strength. Due to the lack of solvent, the fluidity and wettability of hot melt adhesive are short plates. To improve the bonding strength of hot melt adhesive, we should mainly start with the polarity and wettability of hot melt adhesive.


二、High speed hot melt adhesive

The high efficiency of hot melt adhesive is recognized, because as long as the hot melt adhesive cools, it can harden and form bonding. The bonding speed of cigarette sticks can reach 20000 pieces / min, book binding can reach 18000 copies / h, and the production of diapers can reach 1000 pieces / min.

In the future, it is possible to further improve the sizing speed of hot melt adhesive and expand this advantage, mainly from accelerating the hardening speed, improving the thermal viscosity, reducing the specific heat of materials and optimizing the equipment.

三、Low temperature hot melt adhesive

Sizing temperature is one of the most concerned problems of material engineers. Low sizing temperature can not only reduce material damage, prolong the service life of equipment, save energy consumption, but also reduce the public welfare effect of carbon emission. Therefore, low temperature hot melt adhesive will be a promising research direction.


四、Low density hot melt adhseive

In many occasions, reducing material density and realizing lightweight has many advantages, such as reducing energy consumption and saving resources. In fact, the bonding strength of adhesive depends more on the bonding area than the weight of adhesive itself, which makes low-density hot-melt adhesive a reliable research direction.

Low density can be achieved not only by improving the material density (such as using polyolefin raw materials), but also by manufacturing processes, such as foaming hot melt adhesive.


五、Odorless hot melt adhesive

Under the situation that people pay more and more attention to health, especially in automobile, sanitary materials, food, toys, furniture and other industries, odorless hot melt adhesive is the best product to reduce the doubts of end consumers.

Odorless shall be realized through the improvement of raw materials, small molecular substances shall be reduced as far as possible, and low odor or even odorless raw materials shall be used, such as hydrogenated rosin ester.


六、Material melt glue

Through special molding process, making hot melt adhesive into film, network, strip and linear materials will become a development trend of hot melt adhesive. Nowadays, the market of hot-melt adhesive film, hot-melt adhesive mesh film, hot-melt adhesive tape and hot-melt adhesive line is growing rapidly. Such hot-melt adhesive materials are compounded with other materials, which is more conducive to downstream enterprises to realize large-scale production and cleaner production.


七、Degradable hot melt adhesive

Environmental protection is a general trend, and environmental protection is also a relative concept. Although hot melt adhesive belongs to environmental protection adhesive, it is limited to environmental protection that is harmless to human body, rather than environmental protection at the level of recycling or degradability. In the future, if we can develop hot melt adhesive products that are easy to recycle or can be naturally degraded, it will have a good development prospect.
