With the continuous expansion of human social activities and the rapid development of industrial production, the natural environment has undergone drastic changes. Some of the resulting side effects have brought numerous challenges and even hazards to human life, among which the deterioration of water resources is one example. Severe cases have posed significant threats to people's health and safety.
Water is the source of life. In daily production and life, we rely on municipal water supply. However, water treatment plants, the source of municipal water supply, often suffer from various human-induced or accidental pollution, requiring constant efforts to ensure water safety. Various emergency safeguard measures are always in place. Through long-term cooperation between Jinzong Enterprise and the water industry, it has been learned that utilizing the specific properties of activated carbon, such as its strong adsorption capacity, is one of the most commonly used emergency processes in water treatment plants.
Activated carbon is a general term for carbon materials produced from carbon-rich raw materials such as wood, coal, and petroleum coke through pyrolysis and activation processes. It is characterized by a highly developed pore structure, large specific surface area, abundant surface chemical functional groups, and strong specific adsorption capacity.
Activated carbon adsorption refers to the use of the solid surface of activated carbon to adsorb one or more substances in water, thereby achieving the goal of purifying water quality. The adsorption rate and adsorption capacity of activated carbon are the main indicators for evaluating the adsorption process. In water treatment, the adsorption rate determines the contact time between the adsorbent and the treated water, while the adsorption capacity is related to the pore size and structure of the activated carbon. Generally, the smaller the particles, the faster the pore diffusion rate, and the stronger the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon. Therefore, during the water production process in water treatment plants, if water source abnormalities occur, activated carbon is often added to adsorb dissolved oils, organic matter, odors, and other contaminants. This helps remove chroma and COD, treat heavy metals such as mercury and chromium, and implement various emergency measures to enhance the safety of the water supply.
In the past, when water treatment plants employed emergency activated carbon dosing, they faced issues such as heavy workloads, poor working conditions, and imprecise dosing due to outdated processes and equipment. This led to poor effectiveness, low efficiency, significant waste, and high energy consumption. Leveraging its automated equipment R&D and production platform, along with over 20 years of experience in the water treatment industry, Jinzong Machinery addressed the critical challenges of traditional emergency dosing processes in water treatment plants by developing the new JPD automated activated carbon emergency dosing system. Since its launch, the system has demonstrated excellent performance in the market.
The new JPD automated activated carbon emergency dosing system utilizes data acquisition technology to control the continuous online proportional dosing of activated carbon, ensuring safe and straightforward operation while achieving automated and continuous emergency dosing. The process equipment incorporates positive pressure airflow conveyance, pulse devices, wide-linear embedded twin-screw metering units, anti-agglomeration dispersion mixing units under negative pressure, dosing material detection systems, DCS control systems, and industrial IoT information processing technologies, making it an advanced automated solution in the modern water industry.
According to the Water Affairs Division of Guangdong Jinzong Machinery Co., Ltd., emergency activated carbon dosing equipment for municipal water supply should not be limited to the current level of automation. In the future, further in-depth research and development should focus on intelligent analysis, early warning systems, integrated process linkage and switching, and other artificial intelligence aspects.
