How to commission a water treatment equipment? What steps are involved?

Reverse osmosis water treatment equipment is divided into two parts: one is the pre-treatment commissioning, and the other is the reverse osmosis host unit commissioning. The pre-treatment mainly involves the forward and backwashing of quartz sand and activated carbon to flush out fine sand, carbon, and impurities, and to control the inlet water flow. The reverse osmosis host unit commissioning primarily involves adjusting the flow and pressure of the inlet and outlet water. With over 20 years of experience in the production and R&D of water treatment equipment, JINZONG Enterprise has summarized the following steps:

1. Analyze and test the inlet water of the unit. Only when the results meet the inlet water requirements can the water commissioning of the unit proceed.

2. Adjust the pressure control system of the high-pressure pump.

3. Check whether all pipeline connections in the unit are complete, whether pressure gauges are installed, whether low-pressure pipeline connections are tight, and if anything is missing.

4. Fully open all pressure gauge valves, the main inlet water valve, the concentrated water discharge valve, and the product water discharge valve.

5. Start the pre-treatment equipment and adjust the water supply to exceed the total inlet water flow of the unit.

6. Perform backwashing and forward washing of the sand and carbon filters until the effluent is clear.

7. Start the high-pressure pump and slowly open the main inlet water valve of the unit, controlling the total inlet water pressure to less than 0.5 MPa. Rinse for 5 minutes and check whether all high- and low-pressure pipelines and instruments are normal.

8. Adjust the inlet water valve and the concentrated water discharge valve to achieve an inlet water pressure of 1.0–1.4 MPa.

9. Test the conductivity of the product water. If it meets the requirements, open the product water outlet valve and close the product water discharge valve.

10. The commissioning of the RO unit is entirely manual step-by-step operation. Only after normal operation can it be switched to automatic mode, controlled by online instruments and PLC.

11. Start the regeneration system and check whether it operates normally.

The most critical point in reverse osmosis commissioning is: Never start the high-pressure pump with the product water valve closed, as this can cause significant damage. Therefore, during commissioning, always ensure the pipelines are in a pass-through state before starting the water pump.
